Australische Windhunde rennen buchstäblich um ihr Leben - jährlich sterben Zehntausende
Wussten Sie, dass Windhunde an den kältesten Tagen im Winter ebenso auf die Rennbahn geschickt werden wie an den heißesten Sommertagen? Diese Tiere kennen keinen Urlaub.
Hunderttausende Windhunde rund um die Welt werden nach wenigen Jahren Rennzeit getötet. Viele von ihnen, die nicht in für den Wettbewerb in Form sind, werden umgebracht, bevor sie überhaupt einmal auf der Rennbahn waren, häufig durch eine Kugel in den Kopf, andere auf brutalste Art und Weise.
Windhunde fallen in Australien nicht unter das Tierschutzgesetz.
Von den Besitzern werden „überschüssige“ Windhunde gern als „Ausschuss“ bezeichnet. Was für eine Loyalität gegenüber Tieren, die ihnen Geld einbringen!
Viele Hunde werden dauerhaft in Käfigen an der Rennbahn gehalten. Ihr trauriges Leben ist von Schinderei und Brutalität geprägt. Vielen werden Steroide verabreicht, und viele andere erleiden auf und außerhalb der Rennbahn schwere Verletzungen.
Das ist das schmutzige Geheimnis der Windhundrennbranche weltweit. Natürlich leugnet der australische Zweig der Branche, die Zahl der getöteten Tiere zu kennen. Und obwohl behauptet wird, dass viele der Windhunde in ein Tierheim gegeben werden, so ist es in Wirklichkeit nur ein sehr kleinerer Prozentsatz, der nach dem Ende der aktiven Rennzeit dort landet.
Wenn Sie also das nächste Mal ein Windhundrennen im Fernsehen anschauen, denken Sie daran: Die Tiere laufen buchstäblich um ihr Leben!

Protestieren Sie!
Schreiben Sie als Einwohner Australiens an das Department of Primary Industry Ihres Bundesstaates und fordern Sie zum Verbot von Windhundrennen und den Einschluss von Windhunden unter den Tierschutz auf!
Lassen Sie die Brutalität dieser Branche, der jedes Jahr Tausende Windhunde zum Opfer fallen, nicht länger zu!

Australian Greyhounds literally run for their lives - 10s x1000s die yearly
Did you know that greyhounds worldwide are raced on the coldest days of winter
and the hottest days of summer? Unfortunately, greyhounds don't get a
vacation.
Hundreds of thousands of greyhounds worldwide after a few short years of racing
are killed. Many who are not up to competitive form are killed before
even reaching the track, often with a shot to the head, and some are brutally killed.
Greyhounds in Australia are not covered under the animal welfare code of practice.
Owners refer to greyhounds that are "surplus" as "wastage". That's a loyal way of referring to those who earn them money.
Many dogs are permanently kept at the track in cages. Their life is a sad overworked
and brutal one. Many are given steroids. Many die of serious injuries on and off the track.
This is the dirty secret of the greyhound racing industry worldwide. Of
course, the Australian greyhound racing industry claim ignorance about the number of
greyhounds that are killed, and although they say they rehome many greyhounds, only a very
small percentage are rehomed after their track days are over.
So next time you see a greyhound on TV racing for his/her life on the track.
That can be taken literally.

How to help Greyhounds in Australia & worldwide
Write your local editors bringing the plight of greyhounds to the public
attention and that such a cruel and abusive industry should be banned.
Write to your state government asking for greyhound racing to be banned.
Protest.
If you live in Australia, write to your local state Department of Primary
Industry asking them to ban greyhound racing and ask that greyhounds
are afforded protection under the animal welfare code.
Don't let this secret brutal industry continue as thousands die in Australia
each year.
