SDGAs Antwort zu Lord Lipseys Bemerkungen zur APGAW Untersuchung

Bedingt durch unsere vor kurzem veröffentlichte Antwort zur Untersuchung der Associated Group for Animal Welfare (APGAW) über die Notlage von Renngreyhounds hat man uns um weitere Kommentare zu Lord Lipseys Aussage (siehe unten) für die Zeitschrift „Our Dogs“ gebeten. Diese und unsere früheren Kommentare werden nächste Woche in der Zeitschrift „Our Dogs“ veröffentlicht.

Lord Lipsey ist Vorsitzender der British Greyhound Racing Board.

"Die Größe einer Nation kann man daran messen, wie Tiere behandelt werden", sagt SDGA. "Man kann das „Groß“ von Großbritanien streichen, da wir eine Nation der Tierquäler sind zusammen mit der restlichen Welt."

SDGAs Antwort zu Lord Lipseys Kommentaren exklusiv für die Zeitschrift „Our Dogs“

Lord Lipsey sagt:"Die APGAW Untersuchung wurde nach den unglaublichen Vorfällen in Seaham eingeleitet." Unsere Frage an Lord Lipsey ist, trotz vernichtender Beweise von Misshandlungen an Greyhounds über Jahre, warum musste es einen Seaham - Vorfall geben, um eine Untersuchung in Gang zu setzen? Lord Lipsey und die Greyhound - Industrie wussten sicher schon sehr lange über die Schicksale der Greyhounds Bescheid, und trotzdem wurde nur durch öffentlichen Druck eine Untersuchung eingeleitet, warum haben sie nicht früher eigene Untersuchungen vorgenommen?

Lord Lipsey sagt:"Vier Millionen Pfund werden pro Jahr in den Sport investiert, um das Wohlergehen der Hunde zu verbessern - eine Zunahme von 29% alleine in diesem Jahr." SDGA sagt, genau, wie wird diese Investition verhindern, dass Hunde auf der Rennbahn tödliche Verletzungen erleiden? Und Hunde nach Regel 18 des National Greyhound Racing Club eingeschläfert werden? Wie können wir feststellen für was das Geld ausgegeben wird? Können Sie nachweisen wie das Geld aufgeteilt wurde und wie können wir wissen, ob das Geld nicht vielleicht in die Renovierung der Rennbahnanlagen gegangen ist, z.B. Bars, Restaurants und Toiletten, anstatt direkt für die Hunde?

Wieso glaubt Lord Lipsey, dass gut geregelte Greyhound - Rennen Grausamkeiten stoppen? Es gibt Regeln und Vorschriften innerhalb der Industrie und trotzdem gehen Misshandlungen und Fehlverhalten weiter!

Lord Lipsey sagt:"Die Regierung hat deutlich gemacht, dass erwartet wird, dass „Greyhound - Rennen“ ihr "Haus" in Ordnung bringen. Mit Hilfe von Lord Donoughue wird uns dies gelingen."

SDGA sagt, warum die Industrie nicht schon vor Lord Donoughues Untersuchung ihr "Haus" in Ordnung gebracht hat? Wenn man ein Geschäft aufbaut ist man sicherlich selbst vollkommen verantwortlich und kann nicht Hilfe von anderen erwarten.

Die Frage die wir uns stellen müssen ist - warum sagt Lord Lipsey in dem Sunday Times Artikel am 20. Mai 2007 von Daniel Foggo 'Geheime Greyhound Auswahl beträgt 4,700 pro Jahr', dass er gegen Versuche ist Tierschutzorganisationen in die Abläufe dieses Sports zu involvieren. Dies erweckt bei uns den Eindruck, dass man eine Verschleierungstaktik beibehalten will, man würde doch denken, dass die Industrie Tierschutzorganisationen begrüßen müsste, denn das Wohlergehen der Hunde ist doch die Absicht der Industrie!!!

Es wird die Leser sehr interessieren, dass zwei wichtige UK Hilfsorganisationen, die der Meinung waren es wäre gut Lord Lipsey einzubeziehen, jetzt enttäuscht sind über seinen Einsatz zur Verbesserung der Fürsorge und sich nunmehr entschieden haben, dass sie seinen Namen nicht mehr mit ihren Hilfsorganisationen in Verbindung bringen möchten. Dies sagt uns bei der SDGA doch Einiges!!!

Zusammenfassend: keine Anzahl an Vorschriften wird jemals die Überzüchtungen, Misshandlungen und Tötungen von Greyhounds verhindern, und wir sind der Meinung, dass Lord Lipsey dafür sich schämen, dass er das British Greyhound Racing Board als Vorsitzender und Sprecher unterstützt, eine Industrie, die Schuld daran ist eine Situation hervor zu rufen, in der tausende Hunde getötet und verlassen werden, von gierigen, bösen Menschen die keine Achtung vor ihren Greyhounds haben.

Lord Lipsey und seine Kollegen müssen in Zukunft einen besseren Weg finden ihren Lebensunterhalt zu verdienen, da in naher Zukunft nicht nur die Greyhounds arbeitslos sein werden, sondern auch sie selbst, da Greyhound - Rennen nunmehr bekannt für ihre Grausamkeiten sind und der öffentliche Boykott sich massiv verstärken wird.

Lebe wohl Greyhound - Rennen, du hast Schande über dieses Land gebracht, aber wir werden als Letzte lachen! Dein Reich bricht zusammen. Wir sind dich los!!

LORD LIPSEYS KOMMENTARE

Das British Greyhound Racing Board sagt, es begrüßt den Bericht, behauptet aber, er wurde von einer ähnlichen Untersuchung durch den früheren Agrarminister Lord Donoughue eingeholt.

Vorsitzender Lord David Lipsey sagt:"Die APGAW Untersuchung wurde nach den unglaublichen Vorfällen in Seaham eingeleitet. Seitdem hat sich viel verändert, indem die Täter eine lebenslange Abmahnung erhalten haben, und vier Million Pfund werden pro Jahr in den Sport investiert, um das Wohlergehen zu verbessern - eine Zunahme von 29% alleine in diesem Jahr.

"Der APGAW Bericht wird insofern begrüßt, als dass alles, was für ein besseren Leben der Greyhounds getan wird, begrüßt wird.

"Der Bericht bemerkt, dass „gut regulierte Greyhound - Rennen gleichbedeutend mit gutem Greyhound - Wohlergehen sein können“.

"Er korrigiert wilde Behauptungen von extremistischen Gruppen, dass nur einer von fünf Renngreyhound überlebt. Es bestätigt dahingegen richtig, dass jedes Jahr 8,000 Greyhounds neu vermittelt werden oder als Haustiere gehalten werden - das sind zwei von drei.

"Dies geschah nicht durch Zufall. Es geschah durch die Erhöhungen der Gelder für den Retired Greyhound Trust, der über die letzten 5 Jahre die Vermittlungen verdoppelt hat.

"Wenn die Öffentlichkeit anerkennt, dass Greyhounds wundervolle Haustiere sind, wird diese Quote auch steigen.“

"Viele der Vorschläge in diesem Bericht werden von der Rennindustrie schon berücksichtigt. Die Forderung an die Buchmacher nach mehr Geldern für das Wohlergehen hat ebenfalls die Unterstützung der Rennindustrie.

"Die Regierung hat klar gemacht, dass erwartet wird, dass die Rennindustrie ihr "Haus" in Ordnung bringt, mit der Hilfe von Lord Donoughue wird uns dies gelingen."

SDGA say "You can take the Great out of Great Britain because we are a
nation of animal abusers along with the rest of the world."

SDGA's response to Lord Lipsey's comments exclusively for the Our Dogs
newspaper

Lord Lipsey states that "the APGAW enquiry was set up in the aftermath of
the abhorrent events at Seaham". Our question to Lord Lipsey is despite
much damning evidence of cruelty to greyhounds over the years why in fact has it
taken the Seaham case to spark an enquiry? Lord Lipsey and the greyhound
industry surely must have known for aeons what happens to these greyhounds
and yet due only to public demand is there an enquiry, why have they not
conducted their own previous enquiries?

Lord Lipsey states that "some four million pounds a year is invested by the
sport in improving welfare - a 29% increase this year alone". SDGA say
exactly how will this investment prevent dogs receiving fatal injuries at
tracks? and dogs being euthanased under rule 18 of the National greyhound
Racing Club? How do we know exactly what the monies are being spent on? Can
they prove where the monies have been allocated, as how do we know that the
money hasn't been spent on improving track facilities for the general
public? ie bars, restaurants and toilets? instead of going directly to the
dogs!

What makes Lord Lipsey think that well regulated greyhound racing is going
to stop cruelty? There are already rules and regulations within the
industry and yet cruelty and misconduct continues!

Lord Lipsey states that "The Government has made clear it expects greyhound
racing to put its own house in order. With Lord Donoughue's help this we
shall do".
SDGA say why in fact has the industry not put its own house in order
previous to Lord Donoghue's enquiry? Surely if you create a business one
must be wholly responsible for this and not expect help from outside
parties.

The question we have to ask ourselves is this- Why does Lord Lipsey
state in the Sunday Times article of May 20th 2007 by Daniel Foggo 'Secret Greyhound
Cull is 4,700 a Year' that he would oppose attempts to include animal
welfare groups in the running of the sport. This to us is indicative of
trying to create a veil of secrecy, you would have thought that the
industry would welcome animal welfare groups, if in fact welfare is the industry's
intention!!!

It may be of great interest to readers that two major UK charities who felt
it was constructive to have Lord Lipsey involved have now become
subsequently disappointed in his efforts to improve welfare and have
therefore decided that they no longer wish his name to be associated with
their charity. This speaks volumes to us at SDGA!!!

The bottom line here is that no amount of regulation will ever stop the
excessive breeding, mistreatment and killing of greyhounds and we feel Lord
Lipsey should be ashamed of himself for supporting and speaking as Chairman
for the British Greyhound Racing Board for an industry that is guilty of
creating a situation whereby thousands upon thousands of dogs are killed
and abandoned by greedy, evil people who have no regard for their greyhounds.

Lord Lipsey and his associates need to find a more positive way of making a
living as in the not too distant future it is not only the greyhounds that
will be redundant it will be them as well, as greyhound racing is now known
for its inherent cruelty and the public boycott will continue to increase
massively due to this.

Farewell greyhound racing, you have shamed this country but we will have
the last laugh!! Your empire is about to topple. Good riddens!!

LORD LIPSEY'S COMMENTS

The British Greyhound Racing Board said it welcomed the report but claimed
it had been overtaken by a similar investigation by the former agriculture
minister Lord Donoughue.

Chairman Lord David Lipsey said: "The APGAW inquiry was set up in the
aftermath of the abhorrent events at Seaham. Since then, much has changed
with the culprits warned off for life, and some four million pounds a year
invested by the sport in improving welfare - a 29% increase this year alone.

"The APGAW report is welcome insofar as anything that aims to contribute to
a better life for our greyhounds is welcome.

"The report recognises that 'well-regulated greyhound racing can be
entirely consistent with good greyhound welfare.'

"It corrects wild claims from extremist groups that only one in five racing
greyhounds survives. It rightly finds 8,000 greyhounds are rehomed or kept
as pets each year - which is more like two in three.

"This has not happened by chance. It has happened because of increased
funding for the Retired Greyhound Trust which has doubled the number of
dogs it rehomes over the past five years.

"With public appreciation that greyhounds make wonderful pets growing, that
figure will grow too.

"Many of its recommendations in this report are already under consideration
by greyhound racing. Its endorsement of more funding for welfare from the
bookmakers has greyhound racing's support.

"The Government has made clear it expects greyhound racing to put its own
house in order. With Lord Donoughue's help this we shall do."
